Current Funding Initiatives

Housing

In 2020, the Mini Thni Foundation Board of Directors made the decision to allocate funds to Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation, and Goodstoney First Nation to build new homes as the need is great.

2020 – 2021 Mini Thni Foundation Board of Directors allocate $300,00 to Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation and Goodstoney First Nation t0 build one new home. Goodstoney First Nation was the first to get their funding application in and approved – the build started in August, 2021 and the new home was completed in July, 2022.

2021 – 2022 The Board of Directors could not approve funds for new home builds due to the shutdown and a loss of revenue due to COVID-19.

2022 – 2023 – The Board of Directors once again unanimously agreed to allocate funds for housing – the Foundation is in a position in this fiscal to allocate $600,000 to Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation and Goodstoney First Nation to build two new homes.

2023 – 2024 – The Board of Directors once again unanimously agreed to allocate funds for housing – the Foundation is in a position in this fiscal to allocate $700,000 to Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation and Goodstoney First Nation to build two new homes.

Once, all of the new houses are built – Mini Thni Foundation will have provided funds to build five new homes for Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation and Goodstoney First Nation – a total of 15 new homes with a financial investment of $4,800,00.00.

The Bearspaw new home was built by Sensibly Green Enterprises Ltd. Construction on this home began in July, 2022 and the home will be completed in March, 2023. This home is approximately 1200 sq ft – it includes 1 bedroom on the main floor as well as a full bathroom and 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the lower level. The new home has a well and a septic system was installed. A family of 7 will be moving in upon completion.
The Chiniki new home was built by Trico Homes. Construction began in January, 2022 and the new home was completed in August, 2022. This home is approximately 1200 sq ft – it includes 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main floor and 1finished bedroom and half bathroom on the lower level. A septic system was installed as well as a cistern. A family of 5 moved into this home when it was completed in August, 2022.
The Goodstoney new home was built by Trico Homes. Construction began in August, 2021 and the new home was completed in July, 2022. This home is approximately 1200 sq ft – it includes 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main floor and a finished bedroom and full bathroom on the lower level. A septic system was installed and due to the location of the home a cistern was installed as well. A family of 5 moved into this home in July, 2022.

Indspire

The Mini Thni Foundation Bursary

The Mini Thni Foundation Bursary will be awarding $ 1,500 to five (5) students from each of the following:

  • Bearspaw First Nation
  • Chiniki First Nation
  • Goodstoney First Nation

Who are attending post-secondary institutions across Canada (i.e. College, University, Technical College or Apprenticeship Program)

Iyahrhe Nakoda Food Bank Society

Mini Thni Foundation has supported the Iyahrhe Nakoda Food Bank Society for over 12 years. Funds from the Foundation help support the Food Bank’s operating costs. On any given month the Food Bank employees and volunteers prepare approximately 350 hampers to disperse in the communities of Big Horn, Eden Valley and Mini Thni. During the period of June 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 the Food Bank distributed 146,000 pounds of food.

Stoney Education Authority Lunch Program

Mini Thni Foundation has supported Stoney Education Authority for over 12 years. Funds from the Foundation are allocated specifically to help support the lunch program at Chief Jacob Bearspaw School, Morley Community School, Nakoda Elementary School and TaOtha Community School. The lunch program operates on a daily basis at all schools and provides nutritional breakfasts, lunches and snacks to over 1,000 students.
